Content: Illustrations: 27 woodcuts including title border with nereids and tritons (Johnson 80). The cuts, formerly and at present attributed to Lucas Cranach, were at one time assigned by Dodgson to Hans Cranach but later returned by him to Lucas.--cf. Zimmermann, H. Beiträge zur Bibelillustration des 16. Jahrhunderts. Strassburg, 1924. p. 8-9. The cut on the verso of sig. B₂ depicts Christ carrying the cross.
Content: Scenes from the life of Christ contrasted with illustrations purporting to show papal life and government. The text at foot of each cut consists of quotations from the Gospels, canon law, etc. the selection of which was presumably begun by Luther and continued by Melanchthon assisted by J. Schwertfeger.
