Content: Recorded at New York State Theater, New York, on February 12, 1980. Onstage rehearsal in rehearsal clothes, with piano accompaniment.
Creation/production credits: Choreography: George Balanchine. Music: Igor Stravinsky (three madrigals by Gesualdo di Venosa recomposed for instruments).
Performers: Danced by members of the New York City Ballet: Suzanne Farrell, Sean Lavery, and ensemble.
Funding: Preservation of this video was supported by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.

Description
The ballet is danced twice. During much of the first section of the first run-through, the camera focuses on the offstage pianist rather than on the dancers.
