Description
Part 1. Unidentified BBC radio host covers various topics about upcoming cultural events in London and New York, such as the 1991 London premiere of the film Hamlet directed by Franco Zeffirelli and starring Mel Gibson as Prince Hamlet and Glenn Close as Queen Gertrude. Includes a brief excerpt from the play, accompanied by a review from David Robinson, a British film critic and author, as well as an excerpt from the interview with Zeffirelli. The program contains Ingrid Hassler's review of The Royal Shakespeare Company's production of the play Henry IV, Part I, held in 1991, Stratford-upon-Avon, Great Britain, brief excerpt from the show, and interview with Bob Crowley, set designer of the production. Also includes Leida Snow's review of the 1991 Broadway production of the musical “The Secret garden”, a brief interview with Heidi Landesman [also known as Ettinger], scenic designer, and brief recorded excerpt from the play. Unidentified BBC radio host covers various topics about cultural events held in Europe and the United States, such as the 1991 production of the opera “The death of Klinghoffer”, the premiere of was which held in Brussels; accompanied by brief interviews with the composer John Adams, theatre director Peter Sellars, and librettist Alice Goodman; and excerpts from the production. The program contains Leida Snow's report on ticket prices for theatrical productions in the United States; and BBC report on The Gdansk Shakespeare Theatre in Poland trying for success with the production of the musical "Me and my girl" during its problematic financial situation. The program also includes the announcement of a new German road movie "Go Trabi Go," accompanied by brief interviews with the audience, and Chris Brice's review on the dramatic revival of blues in the United States.
