Sound quality is good overall. The recording is marred by distortion as well as occasional extraneous noise and short gaps, but the speakers' voices are almost always easily intelligible.
Description
Interview with Erik Bruhn conducted by John Gruen as research for his book Erik Bruhn: danseur noble (1979), in New York, N,Y., on December 20, 1977. This is Part 15 of an 18-part series. However, there is no audio for parts 2 and 10, which are available only as edited transcripts. Streaming file 1 (approximately 46 minutes). Erik Bruhn speaks with John Gruen about his mother; his housekeeper Ella Schram; his lawyer, Esther Tonsgaard including her continuing role in his business affairs; his disposition of his property; the actress Susse Wold including their appearing together in the play Rashomon; Ingrid Glindemann and Lennart Pasborg; Kirsten Simone [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2]. Streaming file 2 (approximately 45 minutes). Erik Bruhn speaks with John Gruen about Kirsten Simone including their conflict regarding La sylphide and the eventual mending of their friendship; Marcia Haydée; his thoughts upon seeing dancers perform the roles he used to dance; critics and his dancing; Mikhail Baryshnikov including the first time he saw him dance, as James in La sylphide, and his great admiration for him; working with male ballet students; reasons for not having married and his relationship with Sonia Arova; his need for periods of solitude; his thoughts on his future [ends abruptly, but continues on recording cataloged under the title: Interview with Erik Bruhn, Part 16, 1977].
