Acquisition: Fink Collection
Description
In 1959 Raymond Fink conducted the first national survey of Laos commissioned by the United States Information Agency. The survey drew random samples of adults in each of the twelve provincial capitals and among a sample of villagers in four randomly selected villages in each of the provinces. In the course of the study Fink collected any maps he could locate and, where there were no available maps, had his interviewers draw diagrams of the sample sites. The Fink Collection thus contains seven printed maps made by the French ca.1952, depicting parts of Cambodia and Vietnam as well as a number of Lao provinces. The other local Lao maps were drawn by Fink's staff in the field in 1959.
