Content: Translated text: "...I have been advised that in the state of Brazil the mulattoes and black slaves continue to use knives and other forbidden weapons, and the penalties imposed by the laws of 29 March 1719, and 25 June 1749 are not sufficient to restrain them: therefore the above named black and mulatto slaves..., in place of the punishment of 10 yrs on the Galley imposed by the referred laws on the transgressors, will incur the punishment of 100 lashes on the pillory, repeated on ten alternate days".
