Content: Summary: Using stereotyped language, the narrator describes Ephraim Jones, an African American who loses his money at a crap game; the head of the game asks him to leave; he goes to his girlfriend, but she doesn't want him now that he's lost his money; he goes to a chicken coop but the chickens tell him that if he has no money he should leave; he attempts to kill himself by tieing a rope around his neck to a horse, but is captured by Whitecaps who then lynch him so that other African Americans can see his fate.
