Manuscript note written and revised in ink on a scrap of white paper, undated. On the verso: I can tell of the long besieged city; manuscript poem (fragment) written and revised in ink on a scrap of white paper, undated. Page (or section?) numbered “44” at top in Whitman’s hand. Entire entry apparently canceled by Whitman with a vertical stroke. Cf. “Song of Myself” (1855), section 1, lines 853–54. In Volume I of: Walt Whitman. Holograph manuscript fragments assembled by Dr. Richard Maurice Bucke.
