Content: Printed on image: "BGHS." Written on border: "Nov. 28, 1874." "This illustrations appeared in vol. XXI., October 28th, 1865. A New York scene, sketched by Mr. Albert Berghaus, who is still connected with this establishment. It was this illustrations which prompted Mr. Bergh to carry out his long-cherished idea of founding a society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. The picture has always been used on the seal of the society."
