Content: Written on border: "As conceived in 1810 ; column of Duilius ; amphitheatres from early paintings."
Content: Gaius Duilius was a Roman politician and admiral involved in the First Punic War. A column was erected in his honor in the Roman Forum. The prows of enemy ships decorated the column.
