Notes
Content : Tityus is shown at center, trying to carry off Leto. Even though he is a giant, he is shown the same size as the other figures in the painting. Apollo's bow and quiver are shown behind him at left, while Diana holds a bow and arrow at right.

Content : Tityus was a giant son of Zeus. Urged on by Hera, Zeus' wife, Tityus attacked Leto, the mother of Diana and Apollo. The two children came to their parent's aid and killed Tityus with arrows. At his death, Tityus went to the underworld, where he was tied to the ground and left for vultures to continually eat at his heart.
