Notes
Content : The word "krater" in the caption printed below the picture refers to the large vessel shown, used for mixing wine with water. "Zwei Trinkhörner" (two drinking horns) refers to images on either side of the krater which have been largely cropped from this print.

Content : Dionysus (Roman name Bacchus), the god of wine, sits at center. He and his nymphs (minor female divinities) carry ritual "thyrsi", rods with what look like pine cones at their tops. The nymph at right also holds a lyre. A faun (shown with small horns and a goat's tail) stands at left, holding a double flute, while a winged being looks on at the god.
