Notes
Content: The Graces are the three nude women standing around the basin at center. "Graces" is the Roman term for these personifications of elegance and beauty. The Greeks called them the "Charities". They were the daughters of Zeus, and had the names Euphrosyne (Joy), Aglaia (Brilliance) and Thalia (the Bloom of Life). The Hours were a set of goddesses, also daughters of Zeus, who presided over the orderly progression of life. They stand at left and right of the scene, one holding a covered container and the other a bottle.
