Hesperus was just the opposite, an allegory of evening twilight symbolized by the planet Venus seen just after sunset. Pitho was the goddess of persuasion and a daughter of Venus. Iris symbolically joined heaven and earth when she appeared in her form of a rainbow. Two dolphins leap from the water beneath Venus' swan.
