Physical Description
Audiocassette
Extent: 1 audiocassette (68 minutes) : analog
Sound quality is good; the original container has the following note for setting the sound volume: "River of Ice as a sound composition has a very wide dynamic range. To hear it as it was designed to be heard, the listener must set the volume to his or her hearing sensitivity at the beginning and leave the volume setting the same throughout both sides. To do this, the first 30 seconds of recorded sound (a low pitched wind sound) have been provided. When you start the tape, turn up the volume substantially until you hear the wind sound (not the tape hiss). Immediately turn down the volume until you can barely hear it. Leave the volume at that setting throughout the rest of the tape. Because of large segments of quiet pieces throughout River of Ice, it is recommended that you listen to it in quiet environments."
