Biographical/historical: Johann Evangelist Holzer's fresco, which is no longer in existence, once adorned the front of an inn called Zum Bauerntanz in Augsburg. The five rectangular shapes on this print may represent the spaces occupied by windows. According to the caption at top, the fresco took its name from the inn.
Biographical/historical: Johann Esaias Nilson, who belonged to a family of artists in Augsburg, was a printmaker and decorative artist known as the "German Watteau." His prints documented the frescos of Johann Evangelist Holzer, which were painted on various buildings in Augsburg.
