Panorama of excerpts from George Balanchine's ballets, performed by the New York City Ballet and other companies throughout the United States and abroad, interspersed with commentaries by dancers Kyra Nichols, Darci Kistler, Peter Martins, Edward Villella, and Francia Russell. Balanchine himself is briefly heard in an interview taped in 1964 upon the opening of New York State Theater. Ballets seen, in performance and/or rehearsal, include: Concerto barocco, La sonnambula, The four temperaments, Allegro brillante, Divertimento no. 15, Stars and stripes, Apollo, and Serenade. Among the performers represented are Kyra Nichols, Lindsay Fischer, Darci Kistler, Tanaquil Le Clercq, Jacques d'Amboise, Arthur Mitchell, Judith Fugate, Peter Martins, and Suzanne Farrell.
