Description
The last of the season's series on music conductors organized by 92nd Street Y Cultural Center presents Michael Tilson Thomas who after an introductory speech, responds to music critic Tim Page's exhaustive questions that aim at highlighting the objectives of conductors and conducting. Thomas reflects on the role of the conductor, his relationships with orchestras, his approach to dealing with occasional tempestuous temperaments of musicians, the importance of considering individual personalities of orchestras shaped and formed by their heritage and milieu, and the essence of conducting. The last 30 minutes consist of questions from the listeners that are not heard on the recording but meticulous answers delivered by Thomas for the most part clarify the nature of these inquires.
