Description
A Q&A session with Merce Cunningham and a Russian audience in Mowscow, following a screening of a film of the Cunningham work Beach Birds. The material begins with footage of what is presumably the place where Cunningham stayed while in Russia, and a drive by Cunningham and a translator through Moscow to the location of the screening/Q&A. The Q&A proper begins at 7:45, with Cunningham discussing the Cunningham company's daily rehearsal process. Cunningham then discusses Beach Birds, John Cage's composing methods, and the role of musicians, rhythm and tempo in his works. (14:00). The event concludes with a discussion of the ways in which Cunningham dancers learn new choreography, as well as Cunningham's evolving methods of capturing dance notation.
