Content: Title from verso. Remainder of title on verso: "Dressed in a blue uniform, with brass buttons, a yellow sash about his waist, knotted at the left hip, is the full-length figure of a man in nearly front view, with the face turned to the left and the eyes looking straight ahead. His right foot, advanced, bears his whole weight, and his extended right hand holds his chapeau, ornamented with a large yellow pompon, while his left hand, hanging at his side, grasps the scabbard of a sword. The background is a stone wall and pilasters in a rich brown tone. Signed: M.K. Kellogg, 1858. Height, 106 in.; width, 70 in. Painted for the City in 1858."
