Venue: Presented by the Elaine Kaufman Cultural Center and the World Music Institute. Videotaped in performance for the Jerome Robbins Archive by Penny Ward/Video at Merkin Concert Hall, Abraham Goodman House, New York, on May 11, 1991, with the assistance of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and New York State Council on the Arts.
Performers: Performed by Lawrence McIver (songster/storyteller); Benjamin Reed (stickman); Doretha Skipper, Harold Evans, and Elizabeth Temple (basers [singers]); Thelma Ellison, Oneitha Ellison, Odessa Young, Catherine Campbell, and Carletha Sullivan (shouters [dancers]).
Content: At about 20 min. into the tape, McIver introduces each performer; he also introduces some of the songs.
Funding: Preservation of this video was supported by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
