Description
Judy Fishman, chairman of the board of the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation makes opening remarks and explains why Cunningham himself is not present, but supports this plan for his artistic legacy going forward. She then introduces Trevor Carlson, MCDF executive director, who gives a prepared speech discussing the considerations to be made and questions to be answered while creating the Legacy Tour and the Living Legacy Plan, as well as the actions to be taken moving forward, especially regarding final performances and the dissolution of the company. This is followed by the Cunningham dancers and the student dancers (RUGs) joining Carlson at the podium, with dancer Daniel Madoff giving a statement on behalf of the dancers (9:40). Alan Sperling, chair of the Living Legacy Committee, then speaks briefly about the impetus behind the establishment of the Merce Cunningham Trust and the legacy committee (10:55).
