Description
Conversation between Walter Terry and his research assistant, Stuart Sebastian regarding the evaluation and reworking of Terry's manuscript of his biography of Ted Shawn, later published as: Ted Shawn, father of American dance: a biography (New York: Dial Press, c1976). The time and place are not identified, but may be around 1975. The final approximate six minutes of the recording consists of Terry's self-recorded notes on how to rework the manuscript. Streaming audio file (approximately 31 minutes). Stuart Sebastian, Walter Terry's research assistant, and Terry discuss the manuscript of Terry's biography of Ted Shawn, identifying matters that should be clarified and suggesting material that should be added; topics discussed include the dances performed by the Denishawn Dancers; Shawn's personal life; his relationship with Ruth St. Denis; the structure of the book; certain correspondence regarding male dancers; an evaluation of Shawn as an artist; Shawn's personality; various aspects of Ted Shawn and His Men Dancers; Barton Mumaw [this section of the recording ends at approximately 24:20 minutes]; Terry records his thoughts on how to rework the manuscript.
