Description
After a brief discussion of his work-in-progress, presented during the National College Dance Festival, dancer-choreographer David Appel describes different ways of using vocalizations in dance. He traces the dance developments of the late 1960s and early 1970s that preceded his own work, among them the innovations of Merce Cunningham, the Judson Church group, and Grand Union. Appel also teaches contact improvisation, developed by Steve Paxton, who, like Simone Forti, explored alternate means of training.
