Abstract

This is a synthetic collection consisting of manuscripts, correspondence, a notebook for 1903 and 1904, and portraits. The manuscripts include essays, lists, and miscellaneous materials. The bulk of the collection consists of letters from the author, dating from [1859] to 1901, to Robert Browning, Sir Hall Caine, Moncure Conway, Thomas Hardy, Stella Duckworth Hills, Margaret Raine Hunt, Maria Pattle Jackson, Sir Leslie's wife Julia Prinsep Stephen, the literary agency T. Fisher Unwin, and others, as well as letters relating to the author, dating from 1862 to 1939, between various correspondents, including Julia Margaret Cameron, Aubrey Thomas De Vere, Thomas Hardy, William Holman Hunt, Maria Pattle Jackson, Virginia Woolf, and others. There are letters to Sir Leslie from Charles Francis Adams, Robert Williams Buchanan, Julia Margaret Cameron, Charles Darwin, Francis Ysidro Edgeworth, Henry James, James Russell Lowell, Charles Eliot Norton, George Smith, Baron Hallam Tennyson, Thomas Whittaker, and others, dating from 1866 to 1902.
