Photographs, including many snapshots, depicting professional and personal aspects of the life of Ellabelle Davis. Among the many images found in the collection are views of Davis rehearsing, on one occasion with Joseph Marx, on another, with an orchestra; singing in recitals and operas, in one instance with a spectacular view of the audience before her, and acknowledging applause. Davis is seen socializing before and after her performances with, among others, Marian Anderson, Serge Koussevitzky and Gutierre Tibton. There are several photographs of Davis in the office of N.Y.C. mayor La Guardia with a group of people. There are also images of Davis sightseeing in Europe, Mexico and elsewhere, with and without friends, and of Davis at home in New Rochelle, relaxing with friends and family.
In addition to these subjects, the collection contains older family portraits and several notable images: early 20th century schoolchildren holding guns in a display of patriotism, in school seated at tables, a crowd gathered to listen to speeches on a patriotic occasion, young boys in military uniforms posed with guns, and a man and a boy holding horses in front of a barn.
