Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus: in three volumes

Collection Data

Description
One of the Pforzheimer Collection’s copies of the first edition of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. This copy is in its original boards, has the original printed spine labels, and retains the pages of advertisements which are usually lacking. Carl Pforzheimer bought this copy in 1933 at the sale of the library of the Cleveland judge Willis Vickery, whose leather book labels are on each front pastedown. An earlier owner, “R. W. Sparks” of the Grittleton School in Wiltshire, England, has signed his large signature in ink on the front free endpapers.
