Series of prints issued to illustrate Irving's: A history of New York / by Diedrich Knickerbocker ; The sketch-book of Geoffrey Crayon, gent. For Murray's editions of these works, issued without illustrations, 1820-1832, cf. BAL 10107-10108, 10227, 10230, 10232-10233, 10235, 10255, 10282. Cf. also Williams & Edge. Irving, p. 62, p. 103-104; Langfeld & Blackburn. Irving, p. 82. The illustrated ed. of the History (1824) cited by Williams & Edge, p. 62, is apparently the NYPL copy; the illustrated ed. of the Sketch-book (1822) cited by Langfeld & Blackburn is the NYPL copy. Both contain prints from the present series, with imprint and date as above.
