Content: The first part is a translation of "The famous voyage of Sir Francis Drake into the South Sea, and there hence about the whole Globe of the Earth, begun in the yeere of our Lord, 1577," which was first printed sometime between 1589 and 1600, and was inserted in the 1589 edition of Hakluyt's Principal navigations. Although it has been generally ascribed to Francis Pretty, it is "a compilationfrom three or more sources, probably made up by Richard Hakluyt himself." The second part "so far as Drake is concerned is pure fiction."--cf. Wagner, op. cit., p. 238-285.
