Content: Illustrations: woodcut outline of a bottle around text on p. 347 of v. 2. Extra-illustrated, following the prologue to v. 1, with a series of 14 grotesque figures cut out of engravings and labelled and added to in pen and ink to serve as pictures of Rabelaisian characters. Two of them are from M. van Lochom's Les joueurs de cartes. Extra-illustrated also, at the end of each of the two volumes inwhich v. 1 is bound, with a numbered series of 104 pencil drawings of male and female heads, mostly grotesque. Theseare copies, all by one hand, of a collection of caricatureheads by Leonardo da Vinci which was probably dispersed by1690. These copies may have been made by or for WenceslausHollar whose engravings of grotesque heads after Leonardo drawings in the Arundel collection were published between 1645 and 1651.--cf.
