Collection Data

Description
The bulk of the collection is photographs of artwork used by Kirstein in his career as an art collector, author and executor of the estates of the artists Elie Nadelman and Pavel Tchelitchew. As well as American and European painting and sculpture, topics include architecture, and art during World War II; very few of the folders pertain to ballet. Box 1, apparently removed from a family photo album, contains photos mostly by Kirstein and of a more personal nature, including photos of his apartment interior, his personal art collection, his travels to Japan, Mexico and down South for a civil rights march, awards ceremonies, and production photos of his play "White House Happening" about Lincoln's assassination. Box 7 contains, among other things, a few portraits of family members and choreographers. Material is mostly undated.
