Biographical/historical: Nicolas Petrov (born 1933) is a Yugoslavian dancer, choreographer, and company director. He studied at the Novi Sad Theatre Academy, at the Belgrade State Ballet Academy, and later in Paris and London. He danced with the National Popular Theatre in Novi Sad (1946–1951) and the Belgrade National Popular Theatre (1951–1954). In 1954 he went to France, where he danced with Janine Charrat's company; he also danced with Massine's Ballet Europeo di Nervi. From 1967 to 1969 he was ballet master of the Pittsburgh Playhouse School of Dance; in 1969 he became founding artistic director of Pittsburgh Ballet Theater (a post he held until 1977) and also launched the dance program at Point Park University. Petrov has choreographed more than 100 ballets, eight of which are full-length productions and including the first American full-length staging of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet. He is currently Professor Emeritus in the Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park.
