The beginning of the "General Heraldry of the noble families of the All-Russian Empire" was laid by the decree of Emperor Paul I (1754-1801). 20 volumes were compiled and approved in 1797-1917. Only first 10 volumes were issued by 1917; volume 11 unfinished.
Content: Vol. 1 is not dated; v. 1-10 with engraved title-pages and illus.; v. 11, the printing of which was begun but which was not published, contains the t. p., and 30 col. plates; 5 pl. have explanatory text and are numbered otd. 1, [nos.] 7,9,16,18,30. No more published.
