Biographical/historical: Artist identified in an ink inscription by Charles Cowden Clarke; with an attestation that the drawing was given to his wife, Mary, by a Mr. Chambers, who received it from Richard Westall. Westall was Victoria's drawing teacher during the last nine years of his life (cf. DNB). Also inscribed by Mary Cowden Clarke, upon her contributing the drawing to the birthday album of her grand-niece, Vittoria Beatrice Gigliucci.
