Description: John Cleveland (16 June 1613 – 29 April 1658) was an English poet and political satirist. Counted among the metaphysical poets, his support for the Royalist cause in the English Civil War lost him his position as tutor and lecturer in rhetoric at St John's College, Cambridge. Cleveland's poetry first appeared in "The Character of a London Diurnal" (1647) and in some 20 subsequent collections
