Content: Bound before the Psalter are a ms. calendar for 1475-1493 (1 leaf of vellum) and a ms. ecclesiastical calendar (6 l.) with initials apparently by the illuminator of the Psalter. Bound at end are 13 leaves of 16th (?) century manuscript containing Latin prayers, 1. 1-9 written in black, red and blue, with English captions, l. 10-13 written by a different hand, with initials in red.
Content: Laid in are a holograph letter to Wilberforce Eames from F.S. Ellis relating to the book, and an account by Ellis of Hawtrey's library (an excerpt from: Quaritch, Bernard, ed. Contributions towards a dictionary of English book-collectors. London, 1892-99. Part X. 4 p.)

Imperfect leaves 1 (blank?), 48 and 126 wanting; 1. 48 supplied in ms. facsimile executed by John Harris, text (except colophon) of l. 126a supplied in contemporary (?) ms., with a two line illuminated initial like those of the Psalter. Photostatic reproduction of 1. 126a laid in.
Binding, English, 16th century, of dark brown calf over wooden boards, sides with gilt block stamps of Lyonnese pattern; with one engraved metal clasp and remains of the other, and with impressions of metal corner pieces, some nails of which remain. Rebacked.
With ms. note on fly-leaf signed E. CH. [Edward Craven Hawtrey]
Signatures: [a-p⁸, q⁶] sig. [a₁] blank.
Gothic type: 23 lines. With initial spaces; without catchwords, foliation and signature marks. Colophon printed in red. Ruled in red, and with small initials in red and blue. Two- and three line initials illuminated in brick-red, blue, white and gold; five- to eight line initials (for Psalms 1, 38, 52, 80, 97 and 109) illuminated in blue, white and gold, with miniatures. Six illuminated borders. With spaces left for decoration between many of the Psalms.
