Except for leaf 1, letterpress is lithographed in gold and brown and is surrounded by an ornamental frame printed in gold; illustrated half title is lithographed in black, blue and gold. Album leaves are of stiff paper, attached to the binding with canvas-reinforced stubs.
Content: Photographs are chiefly albumen prints; a few are salted paper prints. In all there are 21 member portraits and 1 large group portrait, each mounted on an otherwise blank leaf, and 4 small photographs vignetted within decorative lithographed borders, each mounted on a page containing letterpress. The small vignetted photographs comprise 2 group portraits, a photograph of a landscape with a man and a child in a boat and a photograph of a sun ornament; sizes are 49 x 62 mm (leaf 4 verso); diameter 85 mm (leaf 5 verso); 65 x 85 mm (leaf 29 recto); and diameter 40 mm (leaf 29 verso). The portrait of F. Pollock on leaf 2 verso is 23 x 18 cm; sizes of other member portraits are approximately 13 x10 cm to 20 x 16 cm; 2 are oval, the others rectangular (some with rounded corners; one with image as oval vignette).
Content: Members, from list on leaf 5 recto: Sir Frederick Pollock, Lord Chief Baron (president of the Photographic Society Club), Francis Bedford, Philip H. Delamotte, Hugh W. Diamond, Joseph Durham, Roger Fenton, Joseph J. Forrester, Frederick Hardwich, Edward Kater, Charles Leaf, Thomas G. Mackinlay, Revd. J.R. Major, D.D, Revd. J.R. Parker, John Percy, Henry Pollock, Julius Pollock, George Shadbolt, William J. Thoms, Benjamin B. Turner, Charles Vignoles. James McCosh is also in the list, but according to a footnote, he is no longer a member, Joseph Durham having replaced him, and Durham's portrait appears in the place of McCosh's. Portraits of all other members are included, in alphabetical order except for club president Pollock; Montizón appears only in the group portrait on leaf 20.
Content: Group portrait on leaf 20 shows 5 men, a woman and a sheepdog by a building entrance; includes Diamond, Delamotte, Forrester and Montizón. Group portrait on leaf 4 verso shows Diamond, Mackinlay and a third person with photographic plates. Group portrait on leaf 29 recto, with legend "Hampton Court July 18th 1856," shows members and their wives in an outdoor setting; it is by Roger Fenton and was exhibited at the Photographic Society about 1856. Members shown are Fenton, Bedford, Diamond, Hardwich, Parker, Frederick Pollock, Henry Pollock, both J.R. Majors, Mackinlay and Turner; in background, the photographic van Fenton used in the Crimea.
