"Following his performance Transcription musicale de la structure des arbres, which was shown in Ardèche (France) in 2011 and for which Penone had recorded the musical structure of different trees' essences, he decided to give it a physical incarnation. He took a 5 meter long beam of mélèze (larch) wood and engraved it with the tree's partition [i.e. score]. From this matrix, he then created an etching-print, or xylography, of an unprecedented magnitude"--Publisher's website.Printed on a single sheet of 300 g watercolor paper with deckled edges.
