Biographical/historical: Stephen Crane was an American novelist, short-story writer, poet, and journalist.
Content: This is a synthetic collection consisting of manuscripts, manuscript reproductions, typescripts, and correspondence. The manuscripts and typescripts comprise poems, portions of plays and novels, stories, essays on the author, and reviews of his work. The correspondence includes letters, dating from 1894 to 1899, from the author to Mark Barr, Ripley Hitchcock, Daniel G. Thompson, H. B. Marriott Watson, and others. Also present are letters relating to the author, dating from 1899 to 1946, between various correspondents, including Cora Crane, Alfred Edward Woodley Mason, G. H. Perris, Alfred Plant, and others. There is also an undated letter from Ripley Hitchcock to Stephen Crane.
