In this important account of Irish labour history, O'Casey describes the the formation of the Irish Citizen Army during the Dublin strike in 1913, and the developments leading up to the 1916 Easter Rising. Himself a leading figure in the movement, O'Casey later became a celebrated playwright, and he both acted and wrote for Dublin's Abbey Theatre.
