Description
In part 1 of this interview (Germany Today program no. 707), Grass discusses his book "From the diary of a snail," how he came to write it and the meanings behind it. He also discusses his political work in the 1960s, especially during the career of Willy Brandt, and how he feels that pessimism and doubt have a place in our civilization. In part 2 (Germany Today program no. 708), he discusses the obligation of a writer to be a moral critic of history and current society.
