Description
Documentary on a visit to Romania by the International Ballet Rotaru. Its founder/director, Romanian-born choreographer Pavel Rotaru, discusses his goals for the company, his philosophy, and his decision to leave Romania in search of artistic freedom. Dancers and company personnel share their impressions of Romania, their experiences with the company, and their perceptions of Rotaru's achievements and style. Rotaru's fellow Romanians, among them choreographer Oleg Danovski and ballet mistress Christina Saru, assess his growth as an artist since his move to the U.S. The brief dance excerpts include b&w archival footage of Rotaru dancing the role of Siegfried in a Romanian production of Swan lake, and rehearsal and performance footage of his company in his versions of Romeo and Juliet and a ballet to Vivaldi's The seasons.
