Description
Interview with Gertrude Lippincott conducted by Mary Rae Josephson on December 29, 1976 in Minneapolis (Minn.) for the Oral History Archives of the National Dance Association, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 31 minutes). Gertrude Lippincott speaks about her early training and professional experiences; teaching including her use of improvisation; her thoughts on incorporating current trends into her teaching; the value of requiring students to choreograph and to perform; professional dancers as choreographers; the choreographic process including how the dancers' characteristics influence the result; her major works [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio fie 2]. Gertrude Lippincott continues to speak about her major works; her hopes for the future including with respect to dance education; various organizations in which she participated with the goal of promoting dance and dance education; her sense of responsibility with respect to dance education; the sacrifices and joys of a life in dance [gap from approximately 24:30 -27:33 followed by a reiteration of the final approximate three minutes of this streaming audio file 2].
