Elizabeth Hard-Simms, who now directs the Westport Ballet Theatre and its associated school in Kansas City, Missouri, recalls her dance training with Lillian Cushing in Denver and Ruth Ambrose in Boston, and reminisces about her subsequent career with Frank and Irina Pal's Wichita Falls Ballet Theatre and Tatiana Dokoudovska's Kansas City Civic Ballet. In discussing her school, she compares traditional and newer approaches to teaching, the latter emphasizing more positive attitudes. She discusses the work of her husband Michael Simms, ballet master at Stephens College, and the varied activities of the Westport Ballet Theatre, which include special performances for children and seniors, and free open-air performances at a shopping mall.
