DescriptionMikhail Baryshnikov and White Oak Dance Project in a dress rehearsal for Past Forward, a retrospective and celebration of Judson Dance. Live performance alternates with video sequences, created by Charles Atlas and narrated by Baryshnikov. This video details how Judson fit within the cultural landscape of the 1960s. Stills and video interviews bracket the performance of live work, explained in part by its choreographer. Explanatory text precedes some pieces. Public participation is part of the program: local dancers, students, and community members take part in several works. This recording opens with the audio narration only, with no visual images until the first performance. Very poor visual quality from 7:18, with rolling images and jitter throughout. Lighting and distance make it difficult to distinguish facial expressions and colors appear faint in first performance.
