Abstract
Interview with Nora Kaye conducted by Ara Guzelimian as host for broadcast on January 13, 1978 by radio station KUSC-FM, Los Angeles, on its series From the studio. Philippe de Conville, director of development for Music Center Presentations is also present and speaks in the latter part of streaming audio file 2. Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 28 minutes). Nora Kaye speaks with Ara Guzelimian about why she changed her name to "Kaye"; Michel Fokine as a teacher; Ballet Theatre [now American Ballet Theatre] including some of her first solo roles; Antony Tudor's Pillar of fire including reasons Tudor chose her [for the role of Hagar]; Tudor's influence on her; working with a choreographer; factors that determine a dancer's decision to stop dancing; the film The turning point including her objectives in making the film; how Leslie Browne came to be cast [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2]. Streaming audio file 2 (approximately 12 minutes). Nora Kaye continues to speak with Ara Guzelimian about coaching dancers, in particular in Antony Tudor's ballets; Jerome Robbins and his ballet The cage; Philippe de Conville and Kaye speak about their plans for American Ballet Theatre in Los Angeles and the expansion of audiences for ballet generally.
