Description
Interview with Ted Shawn on dance and therapy, conducted by Walter Terry as host for radio station WNYC, New York, on its series Invitation to dance; broadcast on April 2, 1967. Streaming audio file (approximately 26 minutes). [Music and introduction by unidentified speaker of program and host, Walter Terry.] Walter Terry introduces the program and Ted Shawn. Ted Shawn speaks about his work with people suffering from physical illnesses and with athletes, with special emphasis on the relationship of rhythm and movement. He also speaks about dance as psychological-emotional therapy including his dance performances at state mental institutions and his work, under the supervision of psychiatrists, with emotionally disturbed individuals; the use of even as opposed to syncopated rhythms. [Closing remarks by unidentified speaker and music.]
