Content: The illustration shows French peasants using farm tools and weapons to clear off an infestation of chafers (May bugs), which, like cicadas, appear in great numbers every few years. The words are sung to a French dance tune and commemorate the defeat of the ravenous insects who tried to devour the local vineyards.
