Date: The British Museum, which holds a copy of this print, dates it between 1726-1729.
Funding: Purchased with funds from the Committee for the Jerome Robbins Dance Division.
Acquisition: Purchase; C. & J. Goodfriend, 2011.
Biographical/historical: Antoine Watteau's original oil painting on canvas first belonged to the painter François Stiemart (1680-1740). It was sold at Christie's in 1997 under the title "A fête champêtre: La musette." This print by Jean Moyreau was made to the same measurements as Watteau's painting, but reverses the image.

Description
Depiction of an elegantly dressed dancing couple in an outdoor setting, accompanied by a man playing the musette, a form of rustic bagpipe. Other ladies and gentlemen sit or stand nearby, observing or conversing.
