Description
WEVD radio program dedicated to the life and career of American operatic tenor Jan Peerce. Herschel Fox interviews Peerce about his childhood and family, his Jewish religious and cultural background, and his way to the Metropolitan Opera stage. He also discusses his Broadway debut in the role of Tevye in the musical "Fiddler on the roof," his upcoming concert at Carnegie Hall, and his book "The bluebird of happiness: the memoirs of Jan Peerce" by Alan Levy (New York, Harper & Row, 1976). Three recordings of Peerce’s performances are played during the program: “Vesti la giubba” from Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, a medley of Jewish melodies, and the song "The bluebird of happiness.” The Jewish melodies consisted of the song on the love of Jews for Jerusalem by [Abraham Singer], "Shiroh" by A. Olshanetsky, and "Israeli lullaby." The program also includes Coca-Cola radio commercials.
